Dr. Katie Meier (DACVIM – Cardiology)
Dr. Meier graduated from the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She then went on to complete a year long rotating post graduate internship at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.
She completed her residency in Cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital in 2006. She achieved board certification in 2007 and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, subspecialty of Cardiology.
In 2009, Dr. Meier founded Austin Heart Vet, the only mobile veterinary cardiology practice in central Texas. By offering mobile cardiology appointments, Dr. Meier hopes to bring the highest quality of specialty care to the largest number of pet owners and patients as possible.
Special interests include arrhythmia diagnosis and management, congential heart disease, and long term management of congestive heart failure.
When not listening for murmurs and arrhythmias, Dr. Meier enjoys spending time with her family, checking out the best barbecue and swimming holes Texas has to offer.
Dr. Michael Cocchiaro (DACVIM – Cardiology)
A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology), Dr. Cocchiaro is a graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and a residency in veterinary cardiology at the University of California, Davis.
After completing his residency, Dr. Cocchiaro spent one year at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center as a specialist in clinical cardiology before returning to Texas. Dr.Cocchiaro’s expertise embraces non-invasive techniques including echocardiography, electrocardiography, and cardiac angiography. He is especially interested in interventional cardiology, including pacemaker implantation, balloon valvuloplasty, and patent ductus arteriosus occlusion. His research has been focused on congestive heart failure as well as medical and surgical therapies that improve the quality of life of patients with heart disease.
Fernando Lopez
Fernando Lopez has been working in veterinary medicine for over 10 years. He is adept at all aspects of patient care and client communication, and keeps things running smoothly for us!
TK Skanse
TK works with the cardiology team at Capital Area Veterinary Specialists, and is there to help facilitate and streamline top notch cardiac care for your pet. In addition to being indispensable to the cardiology service, she is an avid gardner, devoted mom, and loving owner to a dog and 2 cats.
